PSG Edges Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Claim French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now claimed the prestigious trophy on 14 different times.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown featuring the French league champions and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele found the net early on.

Yet, the southern French side fired two times in the closing moments to seize a shock advantage. First, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial equaliser in the final moments to force the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for PSG to complete a 4-1 shootout victory.

Now 14-time champions Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the past 13 seasons.
